This impressive portrait shows Van Dyck's talent for depicting his sitter's honestly, without fatuous idealisation, and Lady Dysart is recognisably a woman of middle age, but the lusciousness of the paintwork, and the exquisite treatment of details and accessories, the pearls in the necklace about her neck, the jewellery in her dress and hair and beautiful folds of her silk dress serve to enhance the dignity of her age not to distract from it.
