The flowing draperies and hairstyle of this boy show Dagar's typical indebtedness to the work of Michael Dahl, though the more angular, conventional pose is distinctly Dagar's. This is, however, one of his most impressive, freely worked pieces, and the rich, red sunset landscape of the background is a moving homage to Titian and the painters of Renaissance Venice.
