Temminck was born in The Hague and there attended the Academy of Pictura, where the artist Benjamin Samuel Bolomey (1739-1819) was in attendance. At the Academy he achieved a gold medal (1783) and became a member of the Brotherhood (1785). The following year he became assistant director and then director in 1787. His miniatures are represented in various museums in The Hague and Rotterdam. There are also portrait miniatures by him in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection).
