Pierre-Paul Sevin was born in Tournon in 1650 and was taught by his father Francois Sevin. As was common in those times, Sevin went to Italy, where between 1666-1671 he visited Rome, Milan and Venice studying the old masters and improving his technique. By 1673 Sevin was in Paris where he remained until 1689 becoming heavily involved with the corporation of master painters in the city. From Paris Sevin moved to Lyons and then back to his hometown of Tournon where he died in 1710.
