This finely drawn portrait of a gentleman dates from the first half of Engleheart’s long and prolific career. Such were his skills that even in such a small arena he is able to describe the edging of his sitter’s silk embroidered waistcoat. The portrait is set into a bracelet clasp frame and may well have been worn originally on the wrist of the sitter’s wife.
