Set into a gold bracelet decorated with pearls and old cut diamonds, engraved with scrolling floral decoration. The interior engraved ‘Der treuesten Freundin zum Andernken and: 13 Sept 1813 u 1838’ (‘to the memory of a most loyal friend’)Emanuel Peter was one of the most successful European miniaturists of the 19th century. His acutely observed portraits won him numerous commissions from aristocratic families in Austria. After training as an architect and excelling in draughtsmanship, he turned his attentions to portrait miniatures. As the pupil of Michael Moritz Daffinger, he made many connections with important patrons as well as observing his popular, meticulous style of painting. He spent most of his working life in Vienna.
