Sir Gerald Kelly was one
of the 20th Century’s foremost British artists. Largely self-taught,
he had by the start of World War One become one of the leading society
portraitists. He painted the Coronation Portraits of King George VI and Queen
Elizabeth, and in 1949 was elected President of the Royal Academy. This portrait is number 6 in a series of
studies of Saw Ohn Nyun, a member of the Thi-Paw royal family, in Burma.
